Should Disney Own Your Social Media Images?

On the heels of Disney’s Internet President Steve Wadsworth resignation, the house that Walt built launched a full out social media explosion to allow guests to upload videos, pictures and text on the following social network sites:

www.Facebook.com/WaltDisneyWorld

www.Facebook.com/Disneyland

www.Youtube.com/DisneyMemories

www.Myspace.com/DisneyParks.com

Disney also launched www.DisneyParks.com/Memories  which allows Disney goers to share their experiences.  This is all part of their new “Let the Memories Begin” campaign.

The downside?

When you upload your videos, Disney automatically owns that property and the company could use them for television ads.

According to gearlog.com “Disney reserves the right to “use, reproduce, transmit, display, exhibit, distribute, index, comment on, modify (including removing lyrics and music from any Submission or substituting the lyrics and music in any Submission with music and lyrics selected by us), create derivative works based upon, perform and otherwise exploit”

Do you think Disney has the right to use your images, text, etc when if the shoe was on the other foot, you could be sued if you used Disney characters for profit?
