Mashable recently noted that Sports Illutrated will have a 3-D swimsuit video as a tie-in to their annual swimsuit issue.
The a tie-in is with Sony Network Entertainment will be featured on PlayStation, on VOD (video on demand) as well as certain Sony-made Bravia TVs and Blu-ray DVD players, (can someone please ask Tyra Banks to come out of retirement).
This is smart move by Sports Illustrated.
Although the swimsuit is a still a hot seller, the magazine sales have flattened over the years (around 3.2 million according to Audit Bureau of Circulations).
By going 3D, Sports Illustrated is creating an interesting way to increase advertsing revenue as well as tap into the young male demographics who usually find their sports online or mobile.
